What Prince Edward Island requires

In Prince Edward Island, the Early Learning and Child Care Act regulations require every staff member to hold emergency first-aid and infant and child CPR certification approved by the Early Childhood Development Board — or to enrol within two weeks of starting and obtain it within eight. At least one certified staff member must be present at all times. Administered through the Department of Education and Early Years, the rule ensures a trained responder is always on hand while giving new hires a short, defined runway to qualify.

Anaphylaxis and medication administration

Medication may be administered only with the parent's written consent, non-emergency medication must be stored in a locked container, and all medication kept out of children's reach. For any child with a life-threatening allergy, every staff member must know the allergy, its nature and the appropriate response. That last point is the heart of it: knowledge shared across the whole team, not held by one person, is what keeps a child safe.
