1.1 Introduction

Welcome to the "CPR/AED – ISS Level (6h)" training, recognized by the Ordre des Infirmiers et Infirmières du Québec (OIIQ) and by the Ordre des Infirmiers et Infirmières Auxiliaires du Québec (OIIAQ). This six-hour session is specifically designed to meet the requirements of healthcare professionals working in the federal service, by offering advanced training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

By participating in this training, you enhance your ability to save lives and meet the continuing education criteria required by your professional order, contributing to your ongoing professional development.

The main objective is to provide healthcare professionals with the advanced skills needed to respond expertly in emergency situations, with a focus on cardiorespiratory arrests (CRA) and associated medical emergencies. Specific objectives include:

Mastery of CPR and AED techniques adapted to the healthcare professional context: interventions in cases of cardiorespiratory arrest and airway obstruction in adults, children and infants, including advanced resuscitation practice, use of the AED and the bag-valve mask.

Specific management of respiratory emergencies in a medical context: choking and other respiratory emergencies in patients of all age groups.

Management of basic oxygen therapy as well as severe hemorrhage management — mandatory elements for this federal standard training.

The training is designed to immerse participants in dynamic, interactive learning. The key components of the teaching approach are:

Distinguish between respiratory assistance and ventilatory assistance

Deliver ventilations to all victims per the latest national guidelines, using mouth-to-mouth, a pocket mask or a face shield

Learn to recognize when to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

Learn the particularities of AED use on an infant

Use an AED safely and effectively during a cardiorespiratory emergency

Raise awareness of the different possible approaches and reduce stress when facing an intervention

Care for a person suffering from a life-threatening traumatic emergency

Know the reasons why ventilations may be optional during cardiac arrest

Know the minimum legal responsibilities of the first responder under the law

Ensure a rescuer never puts their health or safety at risk during an intervention

Understand and know the conditions requiring immediate oxygen supplementation

Know the equipment needed to administer oxygen and the correct techniques for use

Learn the safety measures related to the use and storage of oxygen

Recognize the dangers associated with the use and storage of oxygen

Recognize the signs and symptoms of hemorrhage

Learn proper response techniques for a victim with hemorrhage

Interpret a clinical situation of a person experiencing hemorrhage

Respond to a person experiencing hemorrhage

Awareness of continuous training and the importance of refreshing skills

Each section of the training is designed to equip participants with deep understanding and practical skills immediately applicable in an emergency. Content sections alternate between in-depth theoretical explanations, clinical scenarios, demonstrations and practical manikin exercises, in accordance with the latest national guidelines issued by the competent authorities.

4.1 Theoretical instruction

Theoretical instruction is designed to provide a solid, detailed understanding of the essential principles and practices of first aid.

Completion of required readings:

It is crucial to complete all assigned readings before progressing through the program. After finishing each reading section, you must click the "COMPLETED" button. This action is mandatory and confirms that you have absorbed the presented content.

Interactive medical glossary:

Throughout the training path, you will encounter highlighted medical terms. Hovering over these terms will display an information bubble with a short definition. A link will direct you to our online medical glossary for a detailed description.

Assessment format:

At the end of each reading module, a multiple-choice quiz will be offered to test your understanding. Each quiz must be completed within 60 minutes.

Pass criteria:

To advance to the next module, you must obtain a score of at least 80%. If you fail to reach this score, you will have the opportunity to retake the test up to 10 times. A "Need a hint?" button is available to help you.

Preparing for the practical session:

Before each practical session, you will be guided in building a CPR manikin using everyday objects. This innovative method allows you to practice resuscitation maneuvers in an accessible, safe and controlled environment.

How it works:

During the practical session, you must activate an animated video specifically designed to guide participants through the different steps of the CPR maneuvers. Our automated system monitors the time spent on each session. Progress through the course is blocked until the session is fully completed.

Technology support:

The FRSQC mobile app is a valuable resource available to all participants, usable both during learning sessions and in real situations, offering step-by-step guides and procedure reminders.

From the date of purchase of your training, you have 10 weeks to complete the entire program. This timeframe is designed to allow sufficient flexibility while encouraging steady progress.

At the conclusion of the training, a confidential overall evaluation gathers participants' impressions and feedback regarding structure, content, teaching method and overall course effectiveness.

Standard format: a 8.5 × 11 inch page (letter size), ideal for professional settings.

Pocket card format: designed to be printed double-sided and folded, particularly practical for daily use.

Although our certificates are issued only in electronic format, we offer the option to order a physical laminated version. Please contact our administration to request one.
