In Prince Edward Island, the Early Learning and Child Care Act regulations require every staff member to hold emergency first-aid and infant and child CPR certification approved by the Early Childhood Development Board — or to enrol within two weeks of starting and obtain it within eight. At least one certified staff member must be present at all times. Administered through the Department of Education and Early Years, the rule ensures a trained responder is always on hand while giving new hires a short, defined runway to qualify.

Medication may be administered only with the parent's written consent, non-emergency medication must be stored in a locked container, and all medication kept out of children's reach.
